We often get queries on sump pumps, so here is a rough outline of what generally goes wrong with this type of pump together with some solutions. We can put these generic sump problems together with drainage pump problems as they are very similar.

Pump Types In general, drainage or sump pumps fall into two categories..

Manual Sump Pumps - which you simply turn on and off when needed.
Automatic Pumps - that rely on water reaching a certain level to activate them.

Automatic pumps are by far the most common so type we will concentrate on these.
